Lumpy the Snowman

Knit Picks, the online website that is “passionately committed to affordable luxury knitting” has created and graciously issued the snowman patterns at no charge to the website’s visitors. The following pattern is named, “Lumpy.” “Slim” and “Rosy,” are accessible to anyone who visits the stie.

Materials

  • Yarn: Figurine requires approximately 50g / 231 yards of White / Ivory Wool Sock Yarn (Size 1). Striped Scarf & Hat require scraps of sock yarn (Size 1) in two colors of knitter's choice: MC and CC (Main color and contrasting color.)
  • Needles: US Sizes 1 / 2.5mm and 3 / 3.25mm: 16 inch circular or set of 4 dpns.
  • Notions: Stitch markers, sewing thread, & needle to attach accessories, small crochet hook.
  • Stuffing: Polyester Craft Stuffing or scrap yarn. Note: When stuffing snowmen, pack about medium full—enough to stand up well, but not so tight that they won’t felt.

  • Finishing

Using a crochet hook or darning needle, draw the two yarn ends inside the snowman. Felt the snowmen lightly, either by hand or machine, by agitating in alternately hot and cold water. They should shrink to about 70% of their knitted size.

When felting is complete, remove and reshape, allowing to air dry. To make the sections appear more distinct, wrap a rubber band around the necks / waists while drying.

Once dry, trim off any long fuzzy bits. Use beads, buttons or embroidery to create the snowman’s faces. Attach a loop to hang (optional).
