This hand-knit wool hat and scarf set are a quick knit with Lamb's Pride Bulky yarn and size 10½ needles. The wool is great for keeping warm in the cold winter months.

This entire pattern is designed in a single rib stitch. It creates a stockinette stitch look, with depth that is pleasing to the eye. The stretchable rib stitch also allows for adjustable sizing.

Lamb's Pride Yarn is a pleasure to knit with. It feels good, and it knits up quickly with bulky needles. The multi-color yarns, like the Blue Skyways shown, offer a pattern without having to switch yarns or colors. The single rib stitch adds a unique twist to the multi-color pattern.

Materials

  • 2 skeins Lamb’s Pride Bulky (85% wool/15% mohair), shown in Blue Skyways M-230 Note: When making the matching gloves, 3 skeins total should be sufficient.
  • 5 US size 10 ½ double pointed needles
  • Stitch markers, if desired

Gauge

4 ½ stitches per inch; 4 rows per inch

Abbreviations and Explanations for the Knitting Pattern

Single rib stitch and K: In this pattern, K represents both K and P. Follow the pattern for single rib stitch. Single rib stitch is simply a repetition of k1, p1. Keep the k1, p1 pattern throughout to maintain a consistent look. On subsequent rows, always knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches

SKSPK2tog: Slip the first stitch, as if to knit, onto the right hand needle. Slip the second stitch, as if to purl, onto the right hand needle. Stick the left hand needle into the front of the stitches and knit the two stitches together. This keeps the knit stitch in front to maintain the appearance of the single rib pattern.

K2tog: Knit two stitches together at one time.

* * These signs are used to designate areas to be repeated. Repeat the stitches from * to * until the end of the round.

Made the hat and the matching gloves. Glove pattern was great, well written and clear.
The hat pattern however, left me quite a bit disappointed. All started out well until I came to the decreasing rounds. I can't tell if it was entirely the pattern or partially me (but I went back and retried multiple times!), but something just didn't quite work. The remaining number of stitches, while helpful, never quite matched up, and the direction were quite hard to follow as they never distinguish between where the purls are being left in or when the rib pattern is being discarded.

While this was an enjoyable project, it would be much more so with an edited version of the final hat rounds- a disappointing end to a set of good patterns.

I'm sorry you had trouble with the pattern. I will try to rework it as soon as possible to check for errors.
